Bridgestone Australia Blog - Bridgestone's Third World Solar Challenge

Hundreds of the world’s brightest young minds will travel 3,000 kilometres from Darwin to Adelaide in the sweltering heat this year. That’s right, the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge is back.

Bridgestone has been a proud supporter of the inspiring solar car event for the past two challenges and has signed on again as title sponsor for 2017.

Now in its 30th year, the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge will run from October 8-15.

As many as 50 teams from more than 25 countries are expected to aim for the start line, including the most Aussies the event has ever seen.

To help them gain a competitive edge, Bridgestone will even be supplying tyres to a few Australian teams, including the University of Adelaide, University of New South Wales and Western Sydney University.

Australian actor and Bridgestone ambassador Shane Jacobson will be there too, giving the public a behind-the-scenes look at the event. Keep your eye out on Bridgestone’s Facebook page for this exclusive access.

Bridgestone’s support of the event is strongly aligned with its Tomorrow Matters initiative, which is aimed at finding new and better ways of using technology, encouraging our children to find solutions for tomorrow, and helping ensure a safe and healthy environment for current and future generations – three things the World Solar Challenge is all about.

If the third time really is the charm, we’re looking forward to seeing what the 2017 Bridgestone World Solar Challenge has in store!
