Puncture repair

What to do if you get a punctured tyre?

If you do get a punctured tyre, bring it in to your nearest Bridgestone Select or Bridgestone Tyre Centre and our team of technicians will be able to evaluate and determine if the tyre can be repaired.
To check if the tyre can be repaired, our experts will need to remove the tyre from the wheel, inspect the damage and check the structure of the tyre. If the tyre can be repaired, they will fix the puncture, refit & balance it back to the wheel and then fit it to your car.

Tyre repair

When can a tyre be repaired?

To ensure optimum tyre safety, a tyre repair service can only be done if the tyre suffers a penetration in an appropriate tread area and meets the below criteria.

  1. Puncture occurs from belt edge to belt edge on the tread area (Green area, see table below).
  2. The angle of puncture penetration is within 45° from the vertical.
  3. Puncture is no larger than 6mm (10mm for TBR).
  4. The tyre has not worn below 1.6mm of remaining tread depth.
  5. Tyre has no visible sign of under inflation or runflat damage.
  6. Maximum of 3 repairs with a minimum of 150mm between repairs (For RFT maximum of 2 repairs, minimum of 400mm apart).
Puncture Repair
When repairing a puncture you must seal both the hole in the inner liner of the tyre and the injury channel.
This prevents water entering the injury channel and damaging the structural integrity of the tyre.

Punctured tyre replacement

When should you replace a punctured tyre?

String repairs must NEVER be used for “on road” applications. Do not repair a tyre which has already had a string repair, because you will not be able to tell if the structural integrity of the tyre has already been compromised.

Unfortunately, if the tyre has received severe damage to the sidewall, the shoulder or the tread, our technicians may not be able to repair the tyre. In this instance, we would recommend that it is replaced with a new tyre. Bridgestone has an extensive range of tyres suitable to assist in replacing a punctures, and unrepairable tyre.

Bridgestone offers a full tyre replacement service, with a huge range of sizes suitable for car, SUV and 4WD vehicles.

How to avoid getting punctures?

Never drive on a flat or partially deflated tyre

Driving on a flat tyre doesn’t only compromise your safety, but increases the chance of having to fully replace the tyre. If you notice your tyre is looking a bit flat, pull over, replace it with your spare and bring it to a Bridgestone store. That way, our expert technicians can evaluate if it can be repaired or if it needs to be replaced.
